Ron Feinman

 

Ron Feinman, founder and principal in Virginia Elder Law, PLC, is a native of Lynchburg, Virginia. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1979 and maintains a private practice serving all of Central Virginia. Raised in a legal household, Ron began practice with his father where he developed expertise in civil litigation, sophisticated real estate law, contracts and commercial law, as well as sophisticated tax and trusts and estate planning. His focus shifted to Special Needs planning and Elder Law in the late 1990’s and has been his focus ever since. Ron’s brother and cousin both practice law in Lynchburg, and he is proud that both his sons have law degrees from Washington and Lee University. His unique blend of experience and skills allows him to provide assistance to attorneys settling lawsuits across the Commonwealth whose clients need to obtain or protect governmental benefits.

 

Ron is a member of WealthCounsel, a national collaborative of estate planning attorneys developing and sharing state of the art planning techniques, documentation and processes, and its sister organization, ElderCounsel, with a similar focus on Elder Law. For many years Ron also participates as a member of  Lawyers with Purpose (formally Medicaid Practice Systems), another nationwide Elder Law attorney consortium. Ron is a member of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and served on the board of the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (VAELA). He spent 9 years as a board member of the Commonwealth Community Trust (a nationwide pooled disability trust located in Richmond Virginia) and served on its Disbursement Committee; he drafted the amendments to allow the Trust to accept clients from all 50 states and to incorporate Medicare Set Aside sub-trusts under its Master Trust Agreement. Ron is past member of the Charitable Planning Committee of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting and is a former Board Member and Past President of the National Association of Philanthropic Planners (NAPP). Ron is a member of the Virginia State Bar Taxation Section and the Trusts and Estates Sections, and the Central Virginia Estate Planning Council.

A featured speaker before numerous industry and professional groups across the country Ron has published articles in national publications such as Trusts & Estates and Brokers World. Conference presentations include groups such as the International Meeting of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP), the National Association of Philanthropic Planners, the Virginia Planned Giving Study Group and the Virginia Gifts Planning Council, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, as well as numerous Estate Planning Councils.

Ron is a past Chairman of the Board for the Central and Western Virginia Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association (covering the western half of Virginia), as well as past chair of its Lynchburg Advisory Council. He is past president of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals, Piedmont Chapter. He previously served as the Regional Vice-Chair of the B’nai B’rith International Planned Giving Committee, and is a past board member of University of Virginia Hillel Center. He is on the board and heads the Planned Giving Committee for the Children’s Miracle Network of Western Virginia. He is a member of the Development Committee for the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.
