Attorney
If you’re trying to figure out how to protect a parent, navigate long-term care, or make sure your family doesn’t lose everything to nursing home costs—you’ve come to the right place.
For more than 45 years, Ron Feinman has helped individuals and families throughout Central Virginia make informed decisions about some of life’s most important legal, financial, and family challenges. Today, his practice focuses on elder law, special needs planning, estate planning, Medicaid planning, and asset protection.
Many clients come to Ron during stressful moments—a parent has suffered a fall, a diagnosis changes everything, or a family suddenly realizes they are unprepared for the realities of aging and long-term care. His role is simple: bring clarity to what feels overwhelming and help families take the next right step.
Raised in a legal household, Ron began practicing law alongside his father after earning his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1979. During the early years of his career, he developed extensive experience in civil litigation, sophisticated real estate transactions, commercial law, contracts, taxation, trusts, and estate planning.
That broad foundation remains one of Ron’s greatest strengths today. Because elder law often intersects with tax issues, real estate, trusts, government benefits, and family dynamics, he is able to help clients see the complete picture rather than addressing problems one piece at a time.
In the late 1990s, Ron shifted his focus to elder law and special needs planning, areas that have remained the primary focus of his practice ever since. He now helps families:
Protect assets from the rising cost of long-term care
Navigate Medicaid eligibility and planning strategies
Preserve dignity, independence, and quality of life
Plan for loved ones with disabilities or special needs
Reduce stress and uncertainty during difficult family transitions
Coordinate planning when legal settlements may impact public benefits eligibility
Ron is also frequently consulted by attorneys throughout Virginia whose clients need assistance obtaining or preserving government benefits following personal injury settlements, inheritances, or other financial events.
Ron has long been recognized as a leader within the elder law, estate planning, and charitable planning communities.
He is a member of:
WealthCounsel

He previously served on the Board of the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (VAELA) and spent nine years as a board member of Commonwealth Community Trust, a nationally recognized pooled disability trust serving individuals across the United States. During his tenure, he served on the Trust’s Disbursement Committee and drafted amendments that expanded the trust’s ability to serve clients in all 50 states and accommodate Medicare Set-Aside sub-trusts.
Ron is also a former Board Member and Past President of the National Association of Philanthropic Planners (NAPP) and previously served on the Charitable Planning Committee of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting.
Throughout his career, Ron has shared his knowledge with professionals across the country through speaking engagements and published articles.

Ron’s commitment to serving families extends well beyond his law practice.
He is a past Chairman of the Board of the Central and Western Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, serving communities throughout the western half of Virginia, and previously chaired its Lynchburg Advisory Council.
His additional community leadership includes:
Past President, Association of Fundraising Professionals – Piedmont Chapter
Regional Vice-Chair, B’nai B’rith International Planned Giving Committee
Former Board Member, University of Virginia Hillel Center
Board Member and Chair of the Planned Giving Committee, Children’s Miracle Network of Western Virginia
Member, Development Committee, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities
As a lifelong resident of Lynchburg, Ron values strong family and community connections. Law has been a family tradition for generations. His brother and cousin both practice law in Lynchburg, and he is especially proud that both of his sons earned law degrees from Washington and Lee University.
Clients often tell us that Ron has a unique ability to take complicated legal and financial issues and explain them in a way that makes sense. Rather than overwhelming families with technical jargon, he focuses on helping them understand their options, make informed decisions, and move forward with confidence.
When you contact Virginia Elder Law, you’ll speak with a real person who will help you determine the right next step for your situation. From there, Ron and his team will guide you through your options and help you build a plan that protects the people and assets that matter most.
